THAAKAT: (n.) a group of students and young adults determined to make a change

The word THAAKAT is derived from the Urdu/Hindi language meaning strength or power. As the name suggests, this organization is working to empower and strengthen today’s youth in making a difference in the world one step at a time.THAAKAT is a non-profit organization based on helping the underprivileged class with sustained development and temporary relief both locally as well as abroad in South Asia (with future goals to go global), promoting education in poor villages and creating a base for a unified cause among students and young adults in the South Asian community.

More specifically we work with people whose need often goes unnoticed as they live in small, overlooked communities. Every person in need of help is verified of their situation by local contacts we have in the area. We are currently working on building future awareness, building a strong network of knowledgeable and affluent people to help us with our cause both locally and overseas in spreading our message of unity and charitable giving among youth.

* Prevention
* Access to screening and care
* Improvement of the quality of life for cancer survivors

Curry Bear has put up brand new Curry Bear Brest Cancer Awareness shirts. I will give 100% of the profits from these shirts to charity. However, if that was not enough, Curry Bear will donate $25 to breast cancer research for every girl that buys one of these curry bear breast cancer shirts and sends Curry Bear a picture of herself wearing the T-Shirt. You can e-mail them to currybear@currybear.com or just make it your profile pic on facebook and write on curry bear’s wall.

Buy it for yourself, a friend, a family member, someone who is fighting breast cancer, or someone who knows someone who is fighting breast cancer. Maybe you can buy it just as decoration and hang it in your dorm room. Even though the money is nice, that won’t be the biggest benefit of these shirts. These shirts will promote awareness! These shirts (or any breast cancer shirts) will be a reminder for women and (some fat guys) to check them self regularly. Maybe someone will see you wearing it. Maybe someone will examine themselves. Maybe they will have caught it before it’s too late. Maybe you would saved a life without even knowing. Most likely that won’t happen. But a single MAYBE is worth a million NOs. http://ww5.komen.org/
