Nicholas Cage Is “The Sadhu”

I don’t like Nicholas Cage. He’s made some good movies, but as an actor, he pretty much plays himself in all his roles. The last time I enjoyed watching Nicholas Cage in a movie was “The Rock” back in 1996 and Face/Off. It’s been 10 years and the mofo plays all his roles in the same style. Now Nicholas Cage will star in a movie called “The Sadhu.” Sadhu is a comic written by Deepak Chopra’s son Gotham. Deepak Chopra is the dude you see on TV talking spiritual mumbo-jumbo such as “God exists” or “quantum mechanics can heal you.” I think Deepak must be a big comic book fan to name his son after Batman’s home city. It does sound a lot better than Smallville Chopra or Cybertron Chopra. Gotham Chopra is the chief creative officer of Virgin Comics, which he launched alongside his daddy and billionaire Richard Branson.
So what’s the sadhu all about? Is it about a guy who goes around village to village asking people for free stay and food? No. According to the Variety article where I heard this news, Sadhu is an comic that “melds action with mythology from India.”
Here’s a plot summary I jacked from Wikipedia:
I was once a “Sadhu” – what, in the East, they call mystics. I was sitting on the threshold of moksha – spiritual liberation or enlightenment. But I’m not one anymore. Because I lusted after something else, something just as primal and ubiquitous. It’s called revenge.
The Sadhu is about one man’s choice between his spiritual oath and his human instinct. When James Jensen, a down on his luck Englishman, is recruited into her majesty Queen Victoria’s army and posted with his family in India in the summer of 1858, he begins a journey that will take him from being a simple soldier to a spiritual warrior. But faced with tragedy and his own impending execution at the hands of his evil commanding officer, James flees his military unit only to find himself lost deep in the jungle and at the mercy of a seeming band of Indian killers. But when their leader, Dadathakur, orders a reprieve and eventually allows James to join them on their attacks of the local Indian landowners that side with the British, James embarks on a dark path of violence in an effort to avenge the atrocities committed to his family.
But soon he discovers it’s not the answer and is drawn to the gentle nature and sublime wisdom of Dada. James adopts the ways of the Sadhu, a coded way of life that not only teaches an obscure form of martial arts but also illuminates the true nature of reality and at last teaches James the one eternal truth: the path we choose is who we are.
Sadhu seems like an interesting comic although the Sadhus I used to hang out with were broke, didn’t know martial arts and smelled funny. But hey, it’s a fantasy comic book and not reality. By the end of the year, Virgin Comics will have 8 different comics on the shelves. Richard Branson has also recruited Indian director Shekar Kapur to join the team, though it’s unclear whether Kapur is directing this movie. It’d be cool though since he’s made good movies like Elizabeth.
Hmm…Curry Bear thinks it’s time to pop Virgin Comics’ cherry and grab an issue.

SRK also plays himself in all his movies.
Gotham’s a Desi name isn’t it? With a massacred spelling, but still. It’s what Buddha was originally called, no?
Never heard of a desi named Gotham. I’ve heard Gotam and Atam. Let’s see how this turns out.
SRK doesn’t play himself in all his movies…he just did that after he started doing only Yash Raj films. He used to be awesome when he played bad guy roles.
True. My all-time favourite SRK movie is Baazigar. His character is so hot, smart, kinda responsible. So what if he was coo-coo in the head. And ever since like DDLJ he’s the same in all his movies.
Dipps, we should like go out or something.
i loved SRK in Darr and
baazigar… it’s true all tht yash johar chick flick business made him all gooey and not fun.
Gotham is just a variation of Gautam..which is a desi name.
and i’m not sure if Nicholas Cage is going to make a good “Sadhoo”. He seems much too “all-american” to me to pull off desi “culture” well.
His character is a white guy living in India during the colonia times, so who knows what will happen.
