The Sangli Sisters: Werewolf Syndrome

Feb 10, 2012 2 Comments by

Meet The Sangli Sisters: Savita, 23, Monisha, 18, and 16-year-old Savitri Sangli, who live in a small village near Pune, central India, inherited the hypertrichosis universalis disorder from their father. Every week on Twitter I read tweets from girls complaining why they can’t find a guy. I’d like them to imagine if this was them. Yeah, I bet you feel guilty now about feeling depressed for not having a Valentine this year.

They have hope that one day they can be hair free and even find a husband. Sneh Gupta is planning on making a film on the girls to help them become almost hair free. They got the disease from their father, who the mother was forced to marry at the age of 12. These girls are trying to raise enough money to get laser hair removal surgery. Laser surgery would cost 350,000 Indian rupees – or £4,500 per girl – but the family are not wealthy enough to be able to afford it. Until then they have to live with this and survive. The mother says that when she used to take (Savita) out as a child, they used to shout “here comes the beast, the witch”. This article touched me because as a Bear I too am hairy. I’m going to try to find a way so I can donate money to these girls. If you are interested, please send me your e-mail and I will update you on any information I get.
