Ramayana Vs. Mahabarat
This is a great video. I can’t believe something like this was asked on CNBC. I never see things like this on those religious programs my grandma watches on Zee TV. This guy in the video uses a simple 2×2 matrix to explain the differences between the Ramayana & Mahabharat and the philosophical concepts behind it. The Ramayana comes from a very ancient & innocent time whereas the Mahabharat comes from a darker time. I mean it’s so dark that a chick is getting disrobed in public while everyone watches. Yeah…I like the Mahabharat better.

Ram cheated one of the Vanar Kings by attacking him from behind while the King was engaged in a fair dual with his brother. Ironically, it’s a little bit like how Abhimanyu gets killed in the Mahabharata, in which the actions of the elders doing so were frowned upon.
That’s right, we ABCDs know our epics! God bless 80s TV series.
Very interesting perspective from Devdutt Pattnaik . I like it . To me Ramayan & Mahabharat is our History not mythology or mere epics as Britishers / Westeners took great efforts to misleadingly trained us to believe .
But more significantly to me , whether from history or from any events ; it’s important to see what can I learn / benefit from it rather than to waste my energy to see what can I discredit . It’s like taking juice from the fruit rather than spending time to find out how useless are seed & the peel . Finally utility of anything is more function of our ability to extract than the intrinsic merits of the object
