It’s a review of Desi Boyz, Curry Bear isshhhtyle.

The last time I saw an Akshay Kumar & John Abraham movie was Garam Masala. I came out pretty disappointed because I was expecting a laugh-out-loud comedy. Instead what I got was a movie with a few moments of laughter but overall disappointing. It was the same feeling one gets after paying $400 for an escort but not having any sex. Speaking of escorts, that’s what Desi Boyz is about.

Akshay Kumar movies for me are a hit or a miss. They’re either hilarious like Hera Pheri or just dumb like Tees Maar Khan. Then there’s John Abraham. Seriously, I only give props to this man because he got to bang Bipasha Basu. Ok ok, in all fairness, he wasn’t so bad in Dostana, a movie with Amitabh called Viruddh and a few others.

The movie’s plot is simple. John Abraham (Nick Mathur) is a smart financial guy who supports Akshay Kumar (Jerry Patel), both living in London. And Akshay is a total slacker. They both went to college and John’s been supporting Akshay since his college days. Now they’re 30something year olds and Akshay still loads off John. Then comes the recession and John loses his job. Now both guys gotta make money. Then boom, one day someone gets them involved into Desi Boyz – an escort service and now they found a dirty way to make a living. Oh, lets not forget something important  - John Abraham is dating the super hottie Deepika Padukone…..ohhh those dimples, I could stare at them all day. Just to be clear, I was referring to Deepika’s dimples not John’s. That’s all I’ll tell you for the plot because if I tell you more it’ll ruin the movie and you’ll hate me.

I don’t want to hype this movie up, but it is hilarious. From start to finish, it provides laughs with hilarious dialogues and great acting. Every supporting character in this movie did an excellent job, especially Anupam Kher as Deepika’s father. I liked him so much I wish he were my dad. I’m not a fan of most John Abraham movies, but when is paired with another actor, he does a pretty decent job. It also helps if his movies don’t have shitty scripts. I have a feeling John did a good job mostly because he was paired with Akshay Kumar. I think Akshay Kumar just brings out the funny side in his co-stars. Go watch all his comedy movies where he is paired with other male actors and usually they’re quite funny.

The other thing I enjoyed about Desi Boyz was that most Bollywood movies start off great and then turn sucky after the interval or vice versa. Desi Boyz was hilarious till the end. It’s paced just right. It never gets too depressing and even after the big conflict in the movie, it still manages to keep up the laughs.

The songs are pretty good too. I have the title track of Desi Boyz in loop at the moment. I’m picturing myself as a fireman, cop and an air force pilot surrounded by hot blonde chicks. Music composer Pritam did a pretty decent job with other songs too. “Jhak Mar Ke” is my 2nd favorite song in the movie….Deepika looks so cute in this song, God I want to marry her. I also enjoyed “Tu Mera Hero” even though it was auto-tuned to sound like a collaborative song by T-Pain & Cher and the beats were stolen from “Everything Tonight” by Pitbull & Ne-Yo.

Ok Curry Bear, why should I watch this movie?
Because I fucking told you to! Do it mother-fucker! Ok I kidd, I kidd. I must say this – if you usually hate Akshay Kumar/John Abraham Bollywood movies, don’t let that be the reason to pass up Desi Boyz. Desi Boyz is one of the funniest Bollywood movies to come out this year. Guys, girls, kids, uncles and aunties will all like this movie.

Here are some of my favorite bits that I liked in the movie (don’t worry, it won’t spoil it for you)
– Akshay Kumar’s character Jerry Patel talking in Gujarati to his mom. The Gujju uncles & aunties will love this.
– John Abraham’s attempt to win Deepika’s heart.
– Deepika Padukone looking hot in a red dress.
– Anupam Kher’s awesome supporting role.
– Omi Vaidya’s sissy character – he’s the guy who played Silencer in 3 Idiots.
– Deepika Padukone looking hot in a blue dress.
– the hilarious Hindi dialogues (my favorite line of the movie: “Ek din kya solid flashback banega ye”..I can’t wait to use this in real life now).
– um…Chitrangda Singh (Akshay Kumar’s girl) looking hotter than Deepika Padukone. By the end of the movie I fell in love with her. I know, I didn’t think it was possible to find someone hotter than Deepika, but she is.

Seriously people, go watch this movie. It’s one of the few good Bollywood comedies out this year that I would highly recommend. Watch it with your girlfriend or watch it with your parents (don’t worry, there’s no sex scenes that’ll make things awkward). But if you really want to enjoy the movie, do what I did and watch it with some real desi boys.

I give Desi Boyz 4 out of 5 paws because I liked it so much. Any movie where I can quote lines from is worth watching again. Ok fine, I gave it some extra paws just because Deepika and Chitrangda Singh look sexxxy. I really hope they make a sequel.
